Dear Customer,
We have recently received queries regarding SSL certificates being issued with a validity of around 6 months (~199 days) instead of the earlier 1-year period. Here’s a quick explanation to clarify the situation.
What Changed?
The SSL/TLS industry has introduced new global standards mandated by the CA/Browser Forum. These standards reduce the maximum validity of certificates across all major Authorities (like DigiCert).
Now (from Feb–March 2026): ~199 days (~6 months)
Why the Change?
This is part of a long-term plan to improve internet security by ensuring:
- Faster replacement of compromised certificates.
- Stronger and more up-to-date encryption standards.
- Reduced risk from outdated identity validation data.
The Roadmap Ahead
This is a phased reduction that will continue over the coming years:
- 2026: ~200 days (~6 months)
- 2027: ~100 days
- 2029: ~47 days
What This Means for You
If you purchased a 1-year or multi-year plan, your coverage remains fully intact.
- Your plan remains valid for the full duration purchased.
- The certificate will simply need to be reissued periodically (every ~6 months) at no extra cost.
- There is no issue or limitation with your SSL service.
